Dean of Students HOLDs

The Office of the Dean of Students places HOLDs on student’s accounts for a variety of reasons.

Please read the following information to learn more about HOLDs and the process to request HOLD removals.

How can I see what kind of HOLD is on my account?


Use this resource sheet to guide you through viewing HOLD details from your Boise State student center. 

What does each HOLD type mean?

RDO is a Dean of Students HOLD that prevents access to transcripts.
RDS, RTI, and RVP are Dean of Students HOLDs that prevent students from dropping classes.

  • RDS may be placed on student accounts for situations involving CARE alerts, complete withdrawals, and Student Emergency Fund requirements.
  • RTI is placed on accounts when students fail to complete the incoming Alcohol education course required for all new/transfer students under the age of 21.
  • RVP is placed on accounts when students fail to complete sanctions by the stated deadline and/or if a student is suspended or expelled for Code of Conduct violations.

How can I request a HOLD be removed from my account?


Use this resource sheet to learn more about accessing your HOLD details. You will need to email the appropriate Dean of Students email account with your request for HOLD removal. Requests to remove HOLDs will be answered within 2 business days.
